The story is about seventeen girl, Veronica "Ronnie" Miller (Miley Cyrus) remains as rebellious as she was the day her parents divorced and her father moved to Georgia three years prior. She and her brother Jonah (Bobby Coleman) spend the summer with their father in Wrightsville Beach, the small beach town in North Carolina where Steve grew up. Both Ronnie and Steve (Ronnie's father) have good talent in music.
She meets Will Blakelee (Liam Hemsworth) whose introduction involved crashing into her during a volleyball match, and accidentally spilling Ronnie's strawberry shake on her. Ronnie looks after the turtle nest at the beach near her house. She calls the aquarium volunteer for protecting the nest turtle, until Will comes and meets Ronnie. They're staying up at night for keeping the turtle. Then Ronnie begins to have feeling for him. They fall in love....
